I CAN'T CUT IT: straight

We all have some things we can’t do well. One of them

for me is carpentry. Sawing a line that needs a straight edge

never goes well.

Maybe I need glasses. I read mostly without them

so that can’t be it. Put it down to lack of concentration?

            We have a bedroom with a carpet in it. It’s been there

almost  since the house was built. Or close to it.

            My better half put her foot down. A new carpet

Or… she didn’t say what.

            We know a couple of carpenters who have done

good work for us in the past. They came over, looked

at the old carpet, frowned; whispered to each other

and nodded.

Writer’s comment: It took them a full day, leaving

the two of us grinning at each other. Why didn’t we

have it done well before now?

That’s a good question.
