If not darn close to it! Hauling out what

many of us wear when the warm weather

and autumn’s bright colors disappear.

I’m talking about the long sleeve cotton

turtlenecks. Mine,  half a dozen or so, and

mostly white, with the odd color ones thrown in.

This morning , the last Sunday in September,

out they came replacing the short-sleeved

cotton T-shirts.

Writer’s comment: There’s a  real, cozy feeling.

My neck tells me how good it feels. And it will

be that way until the warm weather arrives

next spring.

This may sound  goofy but I spend off-moments

looking at  headlines in newspapers, magazines.

At one time I had to write them myself. Let me tell

you, it wasn’t easy.

Take a magazine.  You’d have several pages

of copy and you must capture the essence of

the article in a three or four word headline.

Some writers I ‘ve worked with were good at it.

They’d see them  sometimes with eyes closed.

A smile would come on and they’d jot down exactly

what was needed.

Writer’s comment:  There are rare moments when

you surprise yourself and do the same thing. Then

again a headline  might catch you off-guard.

I found one recently in a Toronto newspaper’s

opinion  page. It came out of the blue.

Clarke is not the problem, the system is

Wow! I go along with that.  In spades.
