WHATS IN A HEADLINE.

This may sound  goofy but I spend off-moments  

looking at  headlines in newspapers, magazines.

At one time I had to write them myself. Let me tell

you, it wasn’t easy.  

           Take a magazine.  You’d have several pages

of copy and you must capture the essence of  

the article in a three or four word headline.

          Some writers I ‘ve worked with were good at it.

They’d see them  sometimes with eyes closed.

A smile would come on and they’d jot down exactly

what was needed.

Writer’s comment:  There are rare moments when

you surprise yourself and do the same thing. Then

again a headline  might catch you off-guard.

          I found one recently in a Toronto newspaper’s

 opinion  page. It came out of the blue.

 

  Clarke is not the problem, the system is

A BREATHE OF SPRING
