WHEN DID YOU LAST HAVE ONE?

There is something we haven’t had in a long time. You forget and what do you know? It suddenly happens.


We were in Centre Street Deli yesterday after Saturday shopping, when we discovered it was well after three o’clock and we hadn’t had lunch.

We stood there thinking what would satisfy us most at that very moment? Roe pointed to small packages wrapped on the counter. We hadn’t had it in a very long time.


Smoke meat sandwiches, she said.


“You’ve nailed it,” I said.


We could taste them melting in our mouths while they were being heated up.


Fresh, hot French fries with tasty beef gravy came with them. Along with frothy chocolate milkshakes. After my Stella Artois.


Author’s comment: We sat outside in the bright sunshine munching on smoke meats and grinning at each other like a couple of kids on the loose.


Guess what topped it off? Home made fresh-made rice pudding. With cinnamon and whip cream. We promised we’d do it again soon.
